After the temperatures rise above freezing, empty the ice from the bird bath and replace with clean, fresh water. This will make life a bit easier for birds in the cold days leading into winter. In the winter, we will continue with a drill using “secure.” This is used if there is an incident outside of the school building in the community and it doesn’t appear to be a threat. It would allow us to keep our building secure and not let anyone in or out during this time. It allows what is occurring inside the building to continue.

This will help them as they prepare for one of the natural wonders of the world, a trip across the Gulf of Mexico where they will spend winter and return to us next spring. With the printing of the October 1988, “Quality News,” a newsletter sent to employees and community supporters, Quality Mills was making a big change. The larger Russell Corporation purchased the operation and began a merger that further expanded the company’s reach. Clothing lines such as “Cross Creek” continued alongside new Russell brands. At the same time, Quality Mills had opened a new plant in Pilot Mountain earlier in the year and acquired a sewing plant in Danbury.

Through a partnership with Wayne Farms, Surry County Schools will be able to offer students the opportunity to learn the process of raising a broiler until it is processed. Surry Central High School will also be the site of a new live animal lab, further solidifying the partnership between Surry County Schools and Surry Community College. Teachers will use the facility at Surry Central High School in the animal science program and instructors at Surry Community College in the animal science degree program to offer hands-on instruction on raising calves, goats, piglets, and other small animals. Students from the high school and college will receive valuable training in the field of animal science in this cooperative lab. Academic focus areas this school year begin with improving literacy instruction through the state required LETRS training for PreK-5 classroom teachers, elementary exceptional children’s resource teachers, multilingual teachers, and reading specialists. We are certainly excited about the launch of the new elementary Reveal Math textbook.
– Today, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau issued guidance about two junk fee practices that are likely unfair and unlawful under existing law. The first, surprise overdraft fees, includes overdraft fees charged when consumers had enough money in their account to cover a debit charge at the time the bank authorizes it. The second is the practice of indiscriminately charging depositor fees to every person who deposits a check that bounces. The penalty is an unexpected shock to depositors who thought they were increasing their funds. As I stood there amidst all of the excitement I began to look around.

It’s unfortunate that many physically-challenged individuals were denied their legitimate use of several handicapped parking spots that day so they could have conveniently and comfortably accessed the festival or the Post Office. A huge thumbs up to the scores of city employees who contributed to the resounding success of this year’s Autumn Leaves Festival, hosted by the Greater Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce. As a result of the collaborative efforts of city employees from all departments – police, fire, rescue squad, public works , etc. – the spirit of the ‘Mayberry’ community was on full display and appreciated by all. We invested in a house here and even though we visit from California a few times a year, we always leave a piece of our hearts here. My husband is the chair of the Historic Preservation Commission and I am on the Public Arts Commission in Escondido, California.
St. Peter's Catholic Church in Greenville supports a day school for grades K-8. Pope John Paul II Catholic High School supports grades 9–12. In September 1999, Hurricane Floyd made landfall in eastern North Carolina, dropping nearly 17 inches of rain during the hours of its passage. Many residents were not aware of the flooding until the water came into their homes. Most localized flooding happened overnight, and the Tar River suffered the worst flooding, exceeding 500-year flood levels along its lower stretches.

Our maintenance and custodial teams have been hard at work throughout the summer, and the schools are looking great. On behalf of the district, I would like to send appreciation to all who worked throughout the summer to make sure our schools were ready for students on day one. With autumn less than two weeks away, it’s time to stir up a bit of pre-autumn weather lore to boost the change of the season. When the hawk flies high, we can expect Carolina blue sky, but when the hawk flies low we can expect a blow.
When you trim back the bee balm for winter, trim back all the stems because next spring, the balm will produce a whole new season of stems, foliage, and flowers. Derek Jeter said, “There may be people who have more talent than you, but there’s no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do.” Bill Belichick tells his team, “Do your job.” If we all do our job better than anyone else in the state, the team will win. If we are all giving 100%, going the extra mile, being positive, building up our teammates and our administrators, encouraging children, and setting goals showcasing we believe in all of our students, we will win this year. There have been plenty of red berries on the dogwoods in spite of the fact that many have been eaten by birds. We don’t know if an abundance of berries is any sign of a harsh winter or not.
Thankfully, the owners were able to rebuild, and soon after was able to resume selling the normal stock of magazines, newspapers, books, novelties and gifts, along with cigars and tobacco, guns, ammunition, and sporting goods. I heard a story about a woman who was doing her last-minute Christmas shopping at a crowded mall. She was tired of fighting her way down long aisles looking for a gift that had sold out days before.
Many new restaurants, bars and clubs now operate in the Uptown area. Several projects are transforming the Midtown Charlotte/Elizabeth area. Charlotte is the major center of the U.S. motorsports industry, housing the US's only Formula One team, Haas F1, multiple teams and offices of NASCAR, the NASCAR Hall of Fame, and Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord. Approximately 75% of the NASCAR industry's race teams, employees and drivers are based nearby. The large presence of the racing technology industry and the newly built NHRA dragstrip, zMAX Dragway at Concord, are influencing other top professional drag racers to move their shops to Charlotte as well. Most African Americans in Charlotte are Baptists affiliated with the National Baptist Convention, the largest predominantly African American denomination in the United States.

If they are so bad for our youth, then why not just ban them? The answer lies in the materials that start out in the vaping device, which aren’t initially considered harmful. Once you cook these materials however, a chemical transformation occurs. The result is a mix of potentially toxic chemicals including aldehydes, like formaldehyde, which are extremely toxic to the lungs and body. Researchers estimate that there can be as many as 50 new chemicals produced during vaping. Due to the novelty of vaping, some chemicals have yet to be identified.
